Sugar Power is an award-winning illustrator and is looking for collaborative adventures. Apart from that, she loves stars. Without any doubt, she is a sparkling star herself and inspires many people with her outstanding talent and unique art. Her client list includes Volkswagen, The London Times, The Guardian, The Telegraph, The City of Melbourne, The Telus, Chevron, Oakley, Nestle, DDB Vancouver, DDB Chicago, DDB New York, Saatchi & Saatchi, McCann Erickson, MacLaren, Virgin Airlines- to name only a few of an endless list of prestigious clients… I had the honour to work with Sugar once and also to meet this sparkling star again in Paris for an exclusive interview for 160grams Magazine. You just have to love Sugar, there is no other way…
Sussan Zeck: Sugar, who are you? What characterizes you?
Sugar Power: I am a girl with a curl in her hair. I am a Zephyr. I am shy. I like laughing. I hate torment and lies. I like wild people. I like kind people. I like people who love what they do. Even if it is tying a shoe. I adore more things than I should care to. In other words, I am frequently overwhelmed. I like stars. I have many tattoos of them on my body. I try to remain celestial.
Sussan Zeck: Tell me your most significant career steps, how did your story start?
Sugar Power: When I quit working for someone who was benefitting from my lil’ sparkle and started to benefit directly I became a whole lot happier. After that, it was a lot of hard work but I have kept it up and love what I do.
Sussan Zeck: What makes your art unique?
Sugar Power: All art is unique. I try to make mine as personal as possible so that might distinguish it a little.
Sussan Zeck: What fascinates you about art, which influences and tendencies?
Sugar Power: I don’t draw the line between art and life and that I suppose directs me in the path of my heart. All my tendencies are heart renderings, musings, outcomes, sit-coms, rom-coms, deliriums.
Sussan Zeck: Do you think arts & fashion are assimilated?
Sugar Power: Yes. There is no question in my mind.
Sussan Zeck: Any muses or inspirations?
Sugar Power: Amber and Fifi, my two best friends. They provide endless inspiration.
Sussan Zeck: What is the best advice you have ever received?
Sugar Power: “Fill your boots.”
Sussan Zeck: Any insider tips for people interested in the arts in London?
Sugar Power: Ride hard. Never stop trying. Be ready to be surprised.
Sussan Zeck: Who is your creative role model?
Sugar Power: Anyone who loves what they do for a living. The bus-driver, the butcher, the soprano, the seamstress, the deep sea diver. Anyone who is happy to be alive and you can see it in their work.
Sussan Zeck: Where do you see yourself in five years from now?
Sugar Power: Still making pictures but maybe with a critter running amok…
As Sugar shows us, “the magic is in the mix”! Sugar Power will surely keep brightening our days with magic sparkle and shine. In the meanwhile, we will keep watching her work, which can be found here: www.lintmuseum.com11 April 2012 Leave a Comment
