160g LOVES… Bottega Veneta Jewellery line

160g LOVES... Bottega Veneta Jewellery LineIt’s time for dark spells here at 160grams! And while fashion is dealing with neo-gothic, jewellery goes back to the Victorian period, with a big revival of cameos and a renewed interest in brooches and collars in particular.

We love Tomas Maier’s mostly black silver line for Bottega Veneta. The intricate filigrees are reminding of Victorian metalwork (of course the ideal place to admire those is at the V&A in London!) and fences, and the eye patterns go back to Surrealism – one thinks of Buñuel’s Un Chien Andalou and Elsa Schiaparelli’s designs. Intricate leather patterns are obviously what the company is known for, but it is nice seeing these applied to jewellery.

Modern twirls replace old-fashion lace to create products that are deeply rooted in the past but match the needs and thoughts of contemporary women. With prices mostly under a thousand dollars, these pieces are not even prohibitive, would you need to buy Christmas gifts…

They are available on net-a-porter; images from Bottega Veneta.
