The 10 Cases

Every once in a while, someone in the restaurant industry has a stroke of genius. The 10 Cases is one such case. I’d love to say its nestled or hidden on some quaint little street…which, maybe in a way it is…but there is something so unusually unique about it, that it paradoxically but surely catches your eye. Most other places would turn your head because of the blinding chandeliers, or the bustling crowd, or some uber-designed awning…but The 10 Cases boasts no such, well, rubbish. It is tiny, decorated minimally if at all, with a menu sparely scribbled on three little blackboards that hang on the wall. The wine list, yes, it seems there is only one, is a hand written piece of paper that floats from table to table…and if any of the other wines on it are like the totally affordable (nay, cheap) sauvignon I tasted…it is definitely winning. Today’s menu listed three simple though foodie mains of Rainbow Trout, Pork Belly, and some or other mouth-watering cut of steak, while the starters included a typically French salad avec lardons and those kinds of poached eggs you’d notice arriving at a table across the room. Little more to say, so much more to take in. I’d hardly think twice about going back…and I’m sure I’ll get through (but not over) 10 cases in no time.
